“Joy Flight" - part of the Ando Australiana Collection
Surfers Paradise on the Gold coast is Australia's playground ,stunning beaches and vibrant city living outside Brisbane, I travel here often and capturing it in paint was a tricky proposition. I decided to have a group of my favourite parrots , stars of the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary Rainbow Lorikeets, take a joy flight over the city's skyline and Main Beach , the birds are in sharp detail with the entire landscape blurred just as our eyes would see it , also as I get older I only need to take my glasses off to paint it. (haha) The buildings in the landscape serve as carriers of the light that falls upon them, they are bathed in the summer warmth with its luminosity filling in enough detail for our brains to read the Surfers Paradise skyline in all its beauty. To me, light is the ultimate subject to paint because it embodies the pinnacle of all reality and breaking it down into its simplest form creates art that is both realistic and contemporary. Joy Flight was a lot of fun, I hope you feel the same and perhaps relive a memory of a visit to Australia's holiday playground.
