Welcome to my collection of wine paintings : "From Palate to Palette" featuring "Liz" I have a love of old Hollywood. And, being a huge fan of Elizabeth Taylor, I created a painting that celebrates her legacy. You might ask why i have chosen these elements to create a different kind of 'portrait' of her? Well, ' Liz' was not only famous for her acting but her jewellery collection and in 2011 Christie’s New York conducted the landmark auctions of The Collection of Elizabeth Taylor realizing a combined total of $156,756,576. The sale drew unprecedented interest from fans throughout the world bidding on the Collection’s 1,778 lots of jewellery, fashion, decorative arts and film memorabilia! Every single item sold. The edition of the Christie's magazine in the painting covers the famous auction.
Elizabeth Taylor's favourite drink was Dom Pérignon... She believed that Champagne can make any woman feel special and in 1961 when she won her 1st Best Actress Academy Award she celebrated with Dom Pérignon. Dom Pérignon is undoubtedly one of the world's finest champagnes with the 1996 Vintage Rose being one the best, hailed as the vintage of the century, the 1996 Dom Pérignon Rose is simply off the charts.
I enjoyed painting Liz , and how I played with her reflection on the curved surfaces of the bottle and in the glass! Ultimately it was a joy doing those abstract mini paintings with a touch of Dali inspiration!
