“Sculpture in the Sky”
Like a giant’s art form chiseled out of the landscape, Chambers Pillar is a spectacular solitary column towering above the Simpson Desert plain, 160km from Alice Springs. It's a tough drive to get there over gravel road corrugations, bulldust and erosion gullies but worth it to witness one of central Australia’s marvels. The isolation of the area is one of its attractions, you are at one with nature and a great place to paint. In “Sculpture in the Sky” I've depicted the Column against a dark stormy sky swirling above to add contrast to the bright red of the Pillar with fleeting Bee Eaters escaping the approaching rain , this dramatic scene is an impression of another great experience in the outback.
